AERONAUTICS INDUSTRY
New generation engines

As the market focuses on the roadmap to net‑zero by 2050 — exploring electrification, sustainable aviation fuel and hydrogen to power planes — ALTEN is partnering with one of the world’s largest commercial aircraft manufacturers, playing an active part in building tomorrow’s aviation.
This British aero‑engines manufacturer is at the forefront of today’s industry challenges, continuously innovating and making significant strides toward enhancing the efficiency and minimizing the noise and fuel consumption of their engines. And while the company also has activities in naval, renewable power systems, energy, and civil aerospace, building engines for planes like the Airbus A350 or the Boeing 787 is their main market. They know that the right partnerships are key to optimizing their know‑how and staying at the forefront, so, on the recommendation of Airbus, they began working with ALTEN in 2017.
From provider to partner
As Covid restrictions eased at the end of 2021, the airline industry began to bounce back, though only partially and with setbacks. The end of 2023 saw an easing of air traffic and the beginning of a long‑term trend of its upturn too. To meet the challenges of the market’s current and future transformations, the aero‑engine manufacturer revised its partnerships with service providers, deciding to limit their number and transfer new responsibilities to a few selected partners. ALTEN, already a successful collaborator, brought multidisciplinary skills to the table — from designing new products to contributing to customer service — that enabled end‑to‑end business success.
Over time, ALTEN strengthened its offering to this key aerospace player with offices and engineers in the UK and Germany, aligned with India. This value‑oriented transformation happened significantly with the manufacturer taking a stronger position with key players and growing ALTEN into a strategic supplier. More than 80 ALTEN employees support the aero‑engine builder with industrial performance, quality, supply chain, repair and overhaul, shop‑floor support and preliminary design. These services are carried out in ALTEN UK, ALTEN India and the customers’ facilities.
The partnership was formalized at the end of 2023 when ALTEN UK signed a multi‑year work order. In 2024, ALTEN’s headcount in this customer’s work grew and 1,200 consultants are currently supporting it in France, Germany and India.
A valuable partnership
ALTEN’s delivery model has enabled this customer to save over USD 1 million in direct costs in just one year. Moreover, ALTEN’s offshore model plays a key role in achieving cost efficiencies.
● Skills development — ALTEN’s commitment to skills development is demonstrated through its Centers of Excellence, which bring together teams with specialized knowledge and expertise in specific technical areas. These Centers offer comprehensive training programs and mentorship for employees, ensuring they quickly acquire necessary skills and knowledge. In 2021 alone, over 500 engineers completed training under the Network Hub Aero‑Engines Center of Excellence.
● Innovation — ALTEN Labs, innovation centers located worldwide, are central to ALTEN’s strategy. These labs act as a hub, centralizing industry knowledge in areas such as digital engineering, data engineering and developing innovative solutions in technical capability and delivery assurance. ALTEN Labs contributed to creating new technological demonstrators and industry solutions. The British aero‑engines manufacturer project in 2021 marked one of the key transitions supported by ALTEN Labs.
ALTEN’s commitment to delivering quality results is visible in the way customers benefit from its multidisciplinary teams and proximity‑based approach. With its 1,400 engineers located across its Delivery Centers and Labs in 2023, and its strong collaborative model, ALTEN continues to support industry transformation and enable engineering excellence across sectors.
