Developing New Firmware for Docking Stations

Project Title: Development of New Firmware for Docking Stations
Client: Global leader in software production for connecting peripheral devices to computers

Industry: Industrial Equpiment & Electronics

Expertise: Application Development

Scope of the project: Programming, oscilloscope testing, audio integration

Tools: C++, Jenkins, Docker, Python

Creating firmware for docking stations involves developing dedicated software that controls the operation of integrated circuits within the docking stations. Through this update, the docking stations can support new functions, such as compatibility with advanced HDCP security and analog audio handling, adapting to the latest user requirements.

The goal of the project was to adapt docking stations to the rapidly changing technological requirements, enhancing their versatility and compatibility with modern hardware. The ALTEN Polska team developed new firmware that enabled analog audio input support and HDCP (High-Bandwidth Digital Content Protection) for external monitors, essential for high-quality streaming platforms.

Project Execution

The first phase involved integrating analog audio equipment with the existing integrated circuit, ensuring optimal audio experience for users. The team configured the hardware to automatically detect headphones and other audio devices, adapting the firmware to various device specifications.

In the next phase, ALTEN Polska implemented HDCP technology, enabling secure high-resolution content playback on external monitors. Implementing this encryption protocol was crucial for the docking station to meet current content security standards.

The project required intensive software testing on various hardware platforms. Oscilloscope tests, essential for integrated circuit development, allowed for fine-tuning and optimizing the firmware. The team’s autonomous planning enabled flexible prioritization adjustments throughout the project phases.

Final Outcome

Initiated in August 2022 and projected to conclude by December 2023, the project achieved all set goals, making the docking stations more versatile and secure. The new firmware ensures analog audio support and protects against unauthorized content playback on external monitors. This firmware update equips the client with a product tailored to today’s demands.

Summary

ALTEN Polska continues to enhance the project by implementing new features. The team’s autonomy and regular progress meetings facilitate flexible planning. Thanks to this modern approach, the project perfectly aligns with current and future market needs.
