Data Center Consolidation

Project Title: Data Cener Consolidation
Client: Global leader in corporate banking

Industry: Banking, Finance & Insurance

Expertise: Cloud & Infrastruture

Scope of the project: Infrastructure Design, Cloud Migration

Tools: C#, C++, JAVA, SQL, Datebase, System administration

Cloud Migration is the process of moving IT resources, such as applications, databases, or infrastructure, to a cloud environment, enabling more flexible and scalable management of data and IT assets. Through cloud migration, companies gain the ability to reduce operational costs while optimizing the performance and security of their systems without the need for extensive on-premise infrastructure.

Data Center Consolidation Project carried out by ALTEN Polska was initiated in response to the need for modernizing and reducing the operating costs of IT infrastructure in the banking sector. The goal was to provide a modern, high-performance, scalable infrastructure by migrating application resources and databases to the cloud. This migration involved thirty key applications and systems, allowing the elimination of local infrastructure and cost reduction.

Project Execution

In the first phase, the ALTEN Polska team conducted a thorough analysis to assess the technical requirements of each application and the necessary infrastructure resources. As a result, the team prepared the cloud environment and configured the infrastructure before beginning data migration.

The application migration was performed using a “lift and shift” approach, which involves direct migration of resources to the cloud without modification, speeding up the process. The team also identified applications requiring code rewrites in a different programming language due to strict security requirements. In this phase, ALTEN Polska involved local users, decommissioned unused infrastructure, and conducted essential tests to ensure a smooth deployment and minimize data security risks.

Final Outcome

The project was completed following detailed migration verification, integration testing, and full data quality control. Ultimately, all applications were transferred to the cloud, enabling complete decommissioning of local infrastructure, retention of functionality, and streamlined processes. The new infrastructure allows the banking team to utilize cloud resources more effectively, and developers can work more efficiently, eliminating the need to manage on-premise IT resources.

Conclusion

The ALTEN Polska team earned client recognition through the successful consolidation and significant cost savings achieved. Support from experts in IT architecture, engineering, and system administration was crucial to the project’s success. The completion of cloud migration enabled the client to take full control of the infrastructure and increase operational efficiency.

Future actions include managing the new infrastructure, monitoring performance, and implementing changes aligned with growing operational needs. This project serves as a model example of cloud migration, highlighting the benefits of IT infrastructure optimization and close team collaboration.
