Exploratory Testing of a Web and Mobile Application for Children

Project Title: Exploratory Testing of a Web and Mobile Application for Children
Client: International non-profit organization supporting young artists

Industry: Public Services & Government

Expertise: Software Testing

Scope of the project: Exploratory testing of a mobile and web application

Tools: Test checklist, functional and non-functional requirements documentation

Exploratory testing is a dynamic approach to software testing where testers interact with the application in real time without predefined test cases. It focuses on uncovering defects and evaluating system quality by intuitively exploring its functionalities and behaviors.

The task involved conducting exploratory testing of a web and mobile application designed to support children’s educational development. The mobile application functioned as a launcher, while its functionalities were supported by an integrated web-based management system.

The expertise covered evaluating both versions of the application, ensuring compliance with requirements, and identifying potential defects. The client expected a thorough and comprehensive quality report within a short timeframe.

ALTEN Polska’s Role

ALTEN Polska was engaged to perform exploratory testing of the applications, assessing their compliance with documentation and functionality in real-world conditions. The client prioritized precise verification, a detailed defect list, and insights into potential areas for improvement.

Project Execution

The client provided mobile and web versions of the application, along with documentation of requirements. The mobile app was designed as a launcher, enabling content access management based on the user’s age, while the web application served as an administrative panel.

We applied an exploratory approach, using checklists to ensure coverage of all functional and non-functional requirements. The testing phase lasted two weeks and included both positive and negative scenarios. Special attention was given to identifying defects that could impact the user experience.

Outcome

The result was a comprehensive report detailing the test findings. It included a categorized list of detected defects, grouped by severity and user impact, as well as insights into fully functional components. Each defect was documented with supporting evidence, such as screenshots and short video recordings.

The delivered report enabled the client to promptly address the identified issues while gaining a complete understanding of the application’s quality.

Conclusion

This project exemplified effective collaboration between ALTEN Polska and the non-profit organization, combining technical expertise with sensitivity to the client’s needs. The exploratory approach allowed the identification of critical improvement areas, significantly enhancing the application’s final quality.
